Reinforcing consistency in practice and mindfulness, i.e. staying present and focused on what the student can do today to advance his or her practice, is way more effective than the strive for perfection in a field where competition and comparison are at the forefront of the industry and dance culture. Research has shown that the teacher that implements mindfulness techniques (such as visualization), a flexible approach, sense of humor, and positive reinforcements encourages self-confidence while shying away from instilling any type of fear or attainment for perfection. This aids the students in achieving a healthy approach to their physical, mental and emotional practice.
